UK-Japan 150th Anniversary Year Closing Christmas Concert: 12th Dec

UK-Japan Music Society hosts a Closing Concert for Japan UK 150th Anniversary Year on 12 December 2009, at 5pm.

This is a Christmas Concert which is dedicated as Closing Concert to mark the significant year which lasted from September 2008 till the end of December 2009. It features young and talented musicians from Japan and UK performing as soloists and instrumentalists, along with UK-Japan Choir which is amalgamated with other Japan related choirs in and around London.

The music is Handel Messiah which is most popular and appropriate in the celebration of friendship of two nations and when they are about to start 151th year of friendship. The concert is directed by Jonathan Gregory, Director of Music of UK-Japan Music Society and UK-Japan Choir.


The concert will be held at St John's Wood Church, Lord's Roundabout, St John's Wood, London NW8 7NE.

Celebrate the festive season with a knees-up at the Embassy with the Japan Society!

His Excellency The Ambassador, the President of the Japan Society, and Mrs. Ebihara will also be attending the party.

There will be entertainment, such as a demonstration of traditional amezaiku (sugared sweet sculpture) by Mie Ito as well as traditional Japanese music from Naoko Fujita.

Why not get into the festive spirit with this special concert celebrating the 150th anniversary of the UK and Japan’s good relations? There will be performances from the UK-Japan Choir plus instrumentalists and soloists from both countries.

The UK-Japan 150 Christmas Concert is presented by UK-Japan Music Society and is taking place at St John’s Wood Church. Christmas carols will be sung in English and Japanese, and directed by Jonathan Gregory.

The programme will include Bach's Magnificat as well as a new commission to celebrate UK-Japan relations called UK-Japan Motet.
